Situated Objects collects the latest architectural projects of Stan Allen, photographed by Scott Benedict. This group of projects condense Allen’s personal engagement with American material traditions, the conventions of architectural drawing, and the challenge of building with nature.

The whole book design, from binding to page composition, tries to reflect this open way of understanding, what we can call a rooted modernity, and use the editorial elements of the book in the same way Allen’s designs the elements of a house. Using a mix of centered and lateral alignments in the spread composition is a close statement to combine a gable roof with an asymmetric window pattern.

The structure of the book was laid out around three chapters where a series of essays by Jesús Vassallo, Helen Thomas and Allen himself address the subjects of interest inside the architectural works. Opening these chapters, a bold vernacular typeface scatters the titles over the spread, making a minimal word composition that seems to reverberate the words of Donald Judd that opens the book: “All that exist exist, and everything is on their side”.
