As part of the complete design for the 2014–2015 season of La Abadía Theater at 3TG Studio, Luis Vassallo was responsible for the entire Corral de Comedias season design. The Corral de Comedias is a theater from the early 17th century programmed by La Abadía, located in Alcalá de Henares, in the historic periphery of Madrid.

Corral de Comedias offers a diverse program, ranging from contemporary to classical plays, music concerts, visual arts festivals, and an innovative young/children’s theater program.

To capture the contrast of a theatrical stage lighting, the season’s poster design featured black backgrounds that highlighted scenes from different plays. Over these photomontages, a raw and bold typeface played with space, creating a deconstructed composition. Seeking visual rhythms and a contemporary aesthetic, the images and text merged together almost in one element, constructing an expressive graphic language that conveyed and amplified the ideas and the emotions within the plays.

As a colorful counterpoint, the young/children’s plays used duotone backgrounds with vibrant color combinations, appealing to the brighter and more playful aspects of the program.
