Paula Rubio Infante is an artist based in Madrid. The origin of her series Ríen los dioses (The Gods Laugh) and Castillo Negro (Black Castle) lies in drawings and a sculpture created by Manuel Delgado Villegas, known as El Arropiero,—considered the most prolific serial killer in Spanish history—during his internment at the Carabanchel Psychiatric Penitentiary in Madrid during the 1970s and 1980s.

The book design embodies all this dark territory in which Rubio Infante presents the work that has developed from this previously unpublished material. The result is a fascinating reflection on systems of power, violence, madness, sanity, and their complex representations.

This project was designed by Luis Vassallo at 3TG Studio.
