Jesús Monterde is a photographer from Benassal, a small mountain village in the Valencian Community, Spain. Monterde is a late-blooming artist who portrays the surrounding environment with rawness. It’s a dark rural world that may seem brutal to city dwellers, but thanks to Monterde’s gaze, we can approach it without prejudice.
The grim reaper, that popular representation of death, always seems to excuse itself, saying ‘Nemini Parco’ I Spare No One, and it’s true that in this photobook, the main theme is precisely that, death. But a death that is part of a cycle, a death that stirs us inside and reminds us that we are alive.
The design of the photobook embodies the vital energy emanating from Monterde’s work. The iconic photographs, in their composition, are presented without artifice on the page. Thus, the sequence of images reaches the viewer without filters, like a sequence of cards, full of symbolism, laid out to be deciphered.
This project was designed at 3TG Studio.
